1. If I or someone I
know has been a victim, how do we start working with FLA
Four Legged Advocates, Inc.?
We strive to make our referral process as simple as possible.
We accept referrals from members in the legal field, law
enforcement agencies, and the community, or when contacted
directly by a victim. Please contact us if you or someone
you know has been a victim or crime. We will love to help
you!
2. What is a Victim Advocate?
A Victim Service Practitioner,
or Victim Advocate, is a trained individual designated by
the State of Florida who provides support and assistance
to victims and their families, regarding the welfare and
rights of the victim.
3. How do I know I have rights as a victim?
Florida statute
960 states the guidelines for fair treatment of victims and
witnesses in the criminal justice and juvenile justice systems.

in Florida
Statute 960.
4. What kind of dogs are in your program?
For our advocates
who personally qualify, their service dogs accompany them.
Service dogs have the unique privilege of public access and,
as such, are allowed access to court hearings, depositions,
law enforcement departments, and more. Our other advocates
utilize therapy dogs who are granted public access when invited.
5. Do you train or give dogs to victims?
We do not train
or "adopt out" our canine partners for public use.
6. Do you give any presentations to schools, businesses or
groups? Do you participate in community events and functions?
Yes! We give presentations on our program, sexual assault
awareness and education to any group that requests the information.
We also participate in many community events, set-up booths
and involve as much as possible in the community. Please
feel free to contact us to schedule a presentation or involvement
in a community event.
7. What are your service fees?
There is NO charge for ANY
of our services.
8. What happens if there is no guilty verdict?
The outcome
of a trial does not affect our services. We will work with
a victim and/or their family regardless of the outcome of
a case.
9. When do you start working with a victim and/or their families?
We start working with a victim as soon as possible. We can
start at any time (from the beginning to the point of trial
and sentencing).
10. What type of crime victims do you work with?
Although
we primarily assist victims of rape and sexual assault, we
can help with ANY victim of ANY crime.
